Lithium thionyl chloride battery cathode is lithium metal (Li), the internal positive electrode active material and electrolyte are thionyl chloride (SOCl2)。 The rated voltage is 3.6V. There are cylindrical and button shape, from 1/2AA to D format, with spiral type for high current and bobbin construction for small current. Lithium thiony chloride cells have a high energy density, partly because of their high nominal voltage of 3.6V. Bobbin type can reach 760Wh/kg, for a capacity of 19Ah at 3.6V in D format. Because self-discharge is extremely low, this kind of cell can support long storage periods and achieve a service life of 10 to 20 years.
Two type of lithium thionyl chloride cells are available: bobbin and spiral wound construction. Bobbin type cells are particularly well suited for low self-dischargerate, and 10 to 20 years storage life. High capacity, small size, and an ability to with stand broad fluctuations in pressure, Temperature and shock make bobbin type cells ideal for use in remote monitoring applications. However, a growing number of applications
require high current pulses. Spiral type cells are ideal for high pulse current applications. In addition, there are small impedance for spiral type. ( "M" stands for spiral type in our part number)
